Free Water Heaters to New Home Builders
Receive one or more water heaters at no cost when you build a new home in the Boone Electric Cooperative service area. You or your building contractor are responsible for the installation.
Replace your current electric water heater for only $300, including delivery and installation. Water heaters may be modified with a load management device installed by BEC to help control peak demand.
Who Qualifies?
Water heaters can be installed in any home or business served by Boone Electric Cooperative. Mobile or manufactured homes must have a permanent foundation and be located on land owned by the member. Installation and service calls are scheduled Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The water heater becomes the property of the member. BEC is not responsible for any damage to a member's property caused by the water heater.
High-Efficiency, 50-Gallon Tank With a Six-Year Limited Warranty
Each water heater contains two 4,500-watt elements and is insulated to meet current specifications.
Our water heaters also include an extended service agreement. Parts and labor for elements, thermostats and tanks are under warranty for six years. Any damage or service issue caused by calcium deposits (hard water) are not covered by BEC or the manufacturer's warranty. BEC personnel will provide service on the water heater during the six-year warranty period. Any service performed by others will not be reimbursed.
Help Control Electric Rates
The goal of BEC's water heater program is to reduce energy use during peak and off-peak times.
A load management device, installed by a qualified technician, is able to shut off power to the water heater after receiving a radio signal from BEC. The signal is only dispatched during times when BEC is able to save money by reducing our total system electric load. The load management switch also operates during a power outage or if you shut off the breaker. Once power is restored, the water heater will remain off for several minutes before automatically returning to normal operation.
If the load management device has a malfunction, the circuit will be closed and the water heater will continue to operate. Load management is a proven technique used by utilities nationwide.
Boone Electric also strongly recommends (and some local regulations require) pressure-reducing valves and expansion tanks within a home's potable water system. Please contact BEC Member Services or your local water district for more information. In an existing home, a whole-house pressure valve and a thermal expansion tank can be installed by a BEC technician at a nominal cost.
Soften Your Hard Water
Water in rural Boone County is especially hard. This is caused by dissolved minerals - mainly calcium and magnesium in the water. When water is heated, these minerals can leave behind a hard-scale deposit. The deposits accumulate in the bottom of the tank, increasing the potential of premature element failure.
Water softening is the only proven way to reduce mineral deposits. BEC does not require water-softening equipment or endorse a particular product or dealer.
